President Barack Obama is the unlikely star of a new Palestinian media campaign.

Part of a speech Obama gave in 2010 to the United Nations General Assembly is featured in an ad aimed to rally support for the Palestinians upcoming bid for statehood at the United Nations on Sept. 20, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

“When we come back here next year, we can have an agreement that can lead to a new member of the United Nations, an independent, sovereign state of Palestine living in peace with Israel,” Obama said in the 2010 speech in the clip that is played in the radio ad.

The Palestinians use of the remarks is at odds with the Obama administration’s current all-out push to stop the Palestinians from pursuing their statehood bid. U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East David Hale is set to hold talks Wednesday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to urge him to reconsider the statehood effort and instead return to direct negotiations with Israel.

The Wall Street Journal has it right today; the New York Times does not. Ronen Bergman understands more about military strategy than Amos Oz does. Bergman suggests that an understandable form of battle “fatigue” may have accounted for Israel’s decision to send soldiers in as opposed to disabling the ships before they left port—or even allowing them through. In the past, Israel has exercised both options. Bergman goes further. He suggests that Israel may now understand that it cannot reverse its pariah status: “the war over world opinion is over—and Israel has lost.” Thus, Israel will now do what it must do to do to protect its citizens.

It is amazing how riled up the international community gets when a few terrorists, these were not protesters,(think anarchists at a WTO meetings) get killed. The IDF did their job, which is to protect the State of Israel. These terrorists came prepared to fight with knives, pipes, and yes, some guns and now they are crying to the International community about how their rights were violated. If this was truly a humanitarian mission they should have followed the example of Dr. King and Gandhi not the Black Panthers and Mao. It is clear from the videos that the soldiers were attacked first and that the acts by the terrorists were premeditated. Once again Israel is being attacked and no one is coming to its defense not even its Ally the United States.
